Microsoft has confirmed that the Android 13 update for Windows 11 is on its way. With Android 13, Microsoft also plans to include a few useful new features. Simple file transfers between Windows and the WSA container are one of them. Since file sharing between your phone and PC will be as simple as dragging and dropping, everything will change.
The Windows 11 Subsystem for Android will be updated to support Android 13 according to the most recent roadmap that Microsoft published on a GitHub page.
Although a deadline for installing the upgrade is not specified, Windows 11 will likely get the Android 13 update. The implications of the Android 13 upgrade on Windows 11 are unknown, in contrast to Android phones where the effects are visible in a new user interface or a few new features.
Features like “Shortcuts” and “picture-in-picture” modes will also be included in the upgrade. The Android app will be running in a small window that can be overlaid over the original Windows apps when in picture-in-picture mode. For Android applications, the shortcuts may be desktop shortcuts.
Microsoft just added ecosystem integration to its list of supported Android devices. The Photos app for Windows 11 will be able to access iCloud libraries. Applications for Apple Music and Apple TV+ will also be made available on the Microsoft Store.
This is a huge step considering the connection between Windows and the Apple ecosystem. However, there is currently no integration between iOS and Windows 11.
