Snapdragon X2 Ultra – Qualcomm’s New Top End Snapdragon X2 Series Chip
As per new updates that are now being shared, Qualcomm appears to be really ambitious with its aim in dominating the ARM-based PC market and last year’s Snapdragon X Plus and Snapdragon X Elite success pointed out that these chips can hold up and compete against AMD and Intel chips too. Reports are now suggesting that the brand has a Snapdragon X2 Ultra model also in works with a possible core count of 12 cores, the same as that of the Snapdragon X Elite chip.
It is suggested to be a new top end model of the upcoming X2 series that is made for laptops and desktops, probably carrying an internal codename – ‘Ultra Premium’. Also, it is believed to be the final form of the ‘Glymur’ chip that was revealed last year in October 2024 according to reports. Furthermore, even if we don’t have any performance details available about the upcoming Snapdragon X2 Ultra chip when compared with the existing Snapdragon X line, the branding claims that this could be the brand’s most ambitious and powerful laptop processor so far.
Qualcomm is moving forward to capture 50% of the non-x86 laptop space by 2029, and the brand should take on competitors like Apple as well as NVIDIA (who has partnered with MediaTek and is planning on entering laptop CPU market with a new processor). However, the reports of the Snapdragon X2 Ultra chip are indicators revealing that Qualcomm is strong-minded to acquire its place in this market.
Stay tuned for more updates.
