Samsung Announces the Mass Production of PM9E1, a PCle 5.0 SSD with Industry’s Best Performance and Largest Capacity

Samsung, the South Korean consumer electronics maker, has made an exciting announcement in the tech sphere. The company has announced that it has begun the mass production of PM9E1, equipped with improved performance, storage capacity, power efficiency, and security features.

Read more about it below.

PM9E1 Mass Production Begun

The PM9E1 is a PCle 5.0 SSD built on the brand’s in-house 5-nanometer(nm) controller and 8th-gen V-NAND(V8) technology, and is pointed out to be the best performing and having the largest capacity PCle 5.0 SSD in the industry. With major improvements in the areas of performance, storage capacity, power efficiency, and security, the PM9E1 is an optimal solution for all on-device AI PCs.

Speaking more, the eight-channel PCle 5.0 interface helps in improving the reading and writing speeds, pushing it to reach 14.5GB/s and 13GB/s respectively. This is double when compared with its predecessor. More storage options are also being offered – 512GB, 1TB, 2TB & 4TB. As of now, 4TB is the industry’s largest storage capacity, and this would really help PC users who are in need of such large storage options. Coming to the side of power efficiency, as mentioned, significant improvements have been made – making it over 50% more power efficient. Finally, in terms of security, Security Protocol and Data Model (SPDM) version 1.2 has been added. This provides technologies such as Secure Channel, Firmware Tampering Attestation, and Device Authentication. Supply chain attacks can thus be prevented at the stages of production or at the time of distribution.

It has also been officially revealed that Samsung plans on offering advanced SSDs to global PC makers, starting with the PM9E1. The company is thereby expecting that more PCle 5.0-based products will be launched soon in the future, which will in turn make them the global leaders in this market.
