Samsung Introduced its New GDDR7 24Gb DRAM: Industries First 24Gb DRAM with Over 40Gbps Speed
Samsung has today announced that the company has developed the 24Gb GDDR7 DRAM with the industry’s highest capacity and with a speed of over 40Gbps. The brand reveals it to be the optimum solution for next generation applications.
Here’s more about it.
Samsung’s New GDDR7 24Gb DRAM Introduced
Samsung has developed its new 24Gb GDDR7 DRAM after the release of its 16Gb GDDR7 DRAM of last year, and it utilizes the 5th-gen 10nm-class advanced process node, thereby increasing cell density by 50% and retaining the same package size as its predecessor. A 25% increase in speed has been achieved with the help of the three-level Pulse-Amplitude Modulation (PAM3) signaling, offering industry’s leading graphics DRAM speeding of 40Gbps, which can further be even increased to up to 42.5Gbps in suitable environment.
A power efficiency of more than 30% has also been achieved in the 24Gb GDDR7 DRAM with clock control management and the dual VDD design, reducing unnecessary power consumption. Technologies used in mobile products previously have also been brought to Samsung’s 24Gb GDDR7 DRAM, further aiding in improving the power efficiency. With power gating design techniques, the operational stability at the time of high speed operations has also been increased with minimized current leakages.
Samsung believes that its latest 24Gb GDDR7 DRAM will be used more in data centers, AI workstations, and other fields requiring high performance memory solutions, other than its traditional use in gaming consoles, graphics cards, and for autonomous driving. The validation from leading GPU customers is said to start this year, and the commercialization of it is set for early next year as per Samsung’s current plans.
