Recently Intel has made its biggest processor brand update in 15 years by announcing new flagship Intel Core Ultra and mainstream Intel Core processors. The new branding was supposed to start to appear on Intel’s upcoming Meteor Lake processors.
Intel has now officially confirmed that the 14th generation of its CPU architecture- Meteor Lake aka the Core Ultra processor will be arriving on December 14.
Intel Core Ultra “Meteor Lake” chipset: Features
This upcoming chipset arrives with a lot of firsts by Intel- first on its Intel 4 process node, first with a dedicated AI coprocessor inside, and the first time that Intel has integrated a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) within its CPU. It also integrates Intel’s Arc graphics, among other improvements. Like its other competitors, AMD and Qualcomm, Intel’s upcoming chips use chiplets or tiles for different components on the same chip. With the help of these chipsets, the upcoming processors will use less power and offer better performance according to Intel.
The graphics of this processor are on TSMC’s 5nm process and the I/O and new “SoC Tile” are on TSMC N6. The processor also has dedicated tiles for Media and Graphics that are independently attached to the SoC. The “Graphics” tile on the processor is an “Xe LPG” GPU that is equipped with 8 Xe cores and offers support for ray tracing and XeSS. The chips are expected to be able to run generative AI tools similar to ChatGPT. The SoC tile offers support of HDMI 2.1 port, DisplayPort 2.1 support, either 8K HDR video or up to four 4K monitors at once, Bluetooth 5.4, and WiFi 7.
The pricing details for Intel’s Meteor Lake processors are still not disclosed but we might get the information when the chipsets will be nearing it’s official launch.
