Internet services to remain suspended at Delhi’s Singhu, Ghazipur, and Tikri Borders till midnight on February 6, 2021
The Ministry of Home Affairs ordered the suspension of internet services at the Singhu, Ghazipur and Tikri boundaries of Delhi, where farmers have been protesting against the new farm legislation for 24 hours until Saturday night following their “chakka jam” message, officials said. In addition to the three locations, Internet connections will remain suspended in their neighbouring regions until 23:59 hours on 6 February.
The decision was taken to “maintain public safety and prevent public emergency” in the context of the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Safety) Rules 2017, the home ministry official said. The Internet was suspended in view of the “chakka jam” call made by farmers’ unions on Saturday, another official said.
Earlier, the suspension of internet services at the boundaries of Singhu, Ghazipur and Tikri and their neighbouring areas was ordered from 11 p.m. on 29 January and was effective until 11 p.m. on 31 January, which was extended until 2 February.
On 26 January, when significant violence was reported during the Farmers’ Tractor Rally, Internet services were briefly disrupted in several parts of Delhi.
