A statement was released by the KKR to confirm the appointment of Shreyas Iyer as the new captain of Kolkata Knight Riders. After Eoin Morgan left, Shreyas Iyer was appointed captain. Venky Mysore, the CEO of the franchise, welcomed him, saying they were excited to have him as a new leader.
“We are delighted to have been successful in our bid for Shreyas in the IPL auction & to have had the opportunity for him to lead Team KKR. Having impressed everyone as a quality batsman, we are confident that he will excel in his leadership role for Team KKR,” Mysore said.
Brandon McCullum heaped praise on Iyer, calling him one of India’s brightest future leaders and stating he is excited to work with him to bring the team to new heights.
“We are excited to have one of India’s future leaders, Shreyas Iyer, taking the helm at KKR. Having admired Shreyas’ game and captaincy skills from afar, I am looking forward to working closely with him to further the success and style of play we are seeking at KKR,” McCullum was quoted as saying.
