Know more about Sinovac and Sinopharm; Vaccines for COVID-19 developed in China
Wuhan, located in China was the first place where the First Coronavirus case was recorded. China has been trying to develop vaccines against this virus since the pandemic started.
There are over 16 different vaccines at various stages of development, However, so far Sinovac and Sinopharm companies have proven to be effective. They’ve been approved for in use in places such as Turkey, Indonesia, the UAE and Brazil.
The question being, Can they be trusted. However, to know more of these vaccines is that they work in a similar way of how vaccine of Hepatitis A and Rabies do. First, the virus is killed and then and given to the patients; now since the virus is killed, it can’t cause COVID-19. Once this vaccine is injected in the patient’s immune system, it produces antibodies which have the ability to fight against any future coronavirus infection. Two doses of these vaccines are needed. However, they’re stored in the normal fridge, unlike the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines that are needed to be stored in freezing temperature.
The authenticity of these two vaccines creates uncertainty as there are only Phase 2 data available for these vaccines developed form China.
Sinopharm states that their vaccine is 79% effective towards stopping the COVID-19 symptoms; whereas Sinovack called CoronaVack was initially thought to be 91.2% effective but on the contrary when received results from Brazil, it showed merely only 50% effectiveness. In its defence, the company states that when it comes to stopping people from falling sick, it has a higher effective rate.
China has agreed on deals with more than 20 countries and has plans to export vaccines all over the world.
