Mesmerizing Video of the Volcanic eruption from Hawaii’s Big Island
According to a U.S. advisory, the Kilauea volcano on Hawaii’s Main Island erupted on Sunday night. Geological Survey, accompanied by the earthquake that hit the south flank of the volcano.
When steam clouded the skies and ash fell, people were advised to take shelter indoors.
The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) reported a magnitude 4.4 earthquake, its epicenter below the southern flank of the Kīlauea Volcano, at 10:36 p.m. according to the advisory, local time.
Since 2018, it was the most activity seen at the volcano, when a series of earthquakes and violent eruptions at the summit caused evacuations for several months. Hundreds of houses have been devastated by the flow of lava.
The Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency said on Twitter early on Monday that Sunday’s eruption was confirmed at the Halemaumau Crater of the Kilauea Volcano. The department advised locals to stay indoors.
The eruption began with the opening of several fissures on the walls of the Halemaumau crater, the USGS said.
An image from the USGS showed the summit of Kilauea lit by hot lava with a steam and gas plume bursting out of the volcano.
