Mother Maye responds to Elon Musk’s Taj Mahal tweet with a 1954 anecdote: ‘only people to ever…’
Maye Musk, Elon Musk’s mother, told a fascinating story about the billionaire’s grandparents, who visited the Taj Mahal on their trip to Australia from South Africa in 1954. Elon Musk’s grandparents, Joshua and Wyn Haldeman, were the only individuals to make the journey in a single-engine propeller plane without a radio or GPS, according to Maye Musk.
Maye sent the tweet after the worlds richest man declared his admiration for Indian architecture. “It is amazing,” Elon Musk said in response to a tweet about the Agra Fort’s exterior detail.
His mother, a model and dietician, responded: “In 1954, your grandparents flew to the Taj Mahal from South Africa, on their way to Australia. The only people to ever do this trip in a single-engine propeller plane, without a radio or GPS. Their motto ’Live dangerously…. carefully.’”
She also uploaded photos of her parents, including one of her mother, Wyn, posing in front of the Taj Mahal, which is considered one of the world’s marvels. Joshua Musk, Elon Musk’s grandfather, can be seen standing in front of a single-engine propeller plane in another undated photo.
A user replied: “For all the people querying what’s going on here, the story about the previous Musk generation going on a dangerous world tour to see the best of the world in a tiny plane is really inspiring, pioneering and why I think we should have a bit more belief in ourselves.”
The story, however, did not impress everyone.
“And subjugate a lot of black folks to pay for it all. So inspiring!!” tweeted a user.
