New release window: Halo Infinite Launches Soon In 2021 On PC, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X
Halo Infinity has a window for a new launch: autumn 2021. Joseph Staten, the artistic director of the franchise, revealed on Tuesday local time in the United States that the new Halo game will be published early next year. Initially, Halo Infinity was set to release back in November by introducing Microsoft’s next-gen consoles, the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X. This suggests that we’re essentially looking at a year-long wait for the next first-person mainline Halo title, the sixth in the long-running series.
Since Microsoft-owned developer 343 Industries revealed back in August that the game wouldn’t be an Xbox Series S/X launch title, this is the first piece of Halo Infinite production news we’ve seen, and it was postponed to 2021. Then, Chris Lee, head of 343 Industries studio, acknowledged COVID-19 as one reason that “contributed to development challenges,” and noted the tendency to escape “crunch” as another justification for working overtime, even nights and weekends, leading up to a deadline.
There’s more to it than just that the year-long pause shows. But the delay is a positive thing, as it gives 343 Industries plenty of time to get Halo Infinite to their desired level and deliver on the complaints raised back in July against the gameplay trailer. Halo Infinite memes’ face about the visual fidelity of the title, or rather the lack of it, became one of the non-player character brutes that had a deadpan voice. In the latest announcement, Brian Jarrard, 343 Industries group director, noted that Craig was not his “best self” in the July trailer, with Neill Harrison, art management director, noting that it was because NPC facial animation was not “fully implemented in that build” and that all characters were “modeled in a neutral pose,” resulting in Craig’s “incredibly deadpan/lifeless look.”
The first peek at Halo Infinite’s multiplayer maps, as you can see below, has also been unveiled by 343 Industries. The multiplayer parts of Halo Infinite will be free-to-play while the game is being paid for.
On Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, and Windows 10 PCs, Halo Infinite will be out in autumn 2021.
