Baojun Yep, a small pickup truck based on the MG Comet platform unveiled in China, what’s your response on it

It has not been so long since we witnessed the launch of urban runabout MG Comet EV which gives you the freedom to move anywhere in the city without worrying about space. While customers are busy knowing more about this compact urban runabout new exciting news has arrived. This news is about the Baojun Yep, a small pickup truck that is based on the same platform as the MG Comet EV. This news has been shared by the MotorOctane name Twitter account citing Baojun who released this video and autonetmagz who shared it.

Initially, the Yep was introduced as a pure electric SUV with three doors and four seats. Its dimensions are 3381/1685/1721 mm with a wheelbase of 2110 mm. If you will focus on the design it has been designed to give a look of an off-road EV vehicle. But if we talk about the powertrain it runs on a single motor on the rear axle with 68 horsepower and 140 Nm. Its top speed is 100km/h. While customers were eagerly waiting for this compact SUV, Baojun unveiled a pickup version of Yep. In a video shared by Baojun, it can be seen that this pickup Yep version has the same front end with blocky headlights, a huge bumper, and a big side rearview mirror.

There is a spare wheel mounted on the tailgate and has got two doors. It is a two-seater EV based on the same platform as the MG Comet EV. If we were to imagine its launch in India it would be cool to have some pickup space in the compact SUV. But the response of Indian customers towards MG Comet will also help makers to analyze the market. There are some speculations that the Yup pickup EV will have a similar motor, speed, and power which obviously needed to be higher for heavy pickup loads.
