LG introduced LG Ultra PC 17 “(17U70Q) with a huge screen and an RTX 3050 Ti mobile graphics card

Similar to the Dell XPS 15, the “Ultra PC 17″‘s Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti graphics card has 4GB of GDDR6 and 16GB of DDR5-4800 dual-channel RAM

The LG Ultra PC 17″ (17U70Q), which offers a huge screen and an RTX 3050 Ti mobile graphics card in a notebook measuring 0.78 of an inch thick, was introduced by LG on Tuesday. According to LG’s release, it is a “mobile workstation” that matches the design of the Gram series of ultra-portable laptops. There are, however, more powerful challengers.

There is one option for the LG 17U70Q, which features 512GB of storage. The laptop reportedly included one NVMe PCIe 4.0 slot and an older, slower NVMe PCIe 3.0 slot. More storage would let the device compete more effectively against clamshell-style thin workstations, such as the Dell XPS 15 9520.

The Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti graphics card in the “Ultra PC 17″ includes 4GB of GDDR6 and 16GB of DDR5-4800 dual-channel RAM, much like the Dell XPS 15 does.

The Intel Core i7-1260P is also included in LG’s 17-inch PC. This processor has recently been tested in lightweight laptops without dedicated graphics cards, such as the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga. The processor contains 16 threads, eight efficient cores running at 1.5 to 3.4 GHz, four performance cores ranging from 2.1 to 4.7 GHz, and 18 MB of cache.

The i7-1260P isn’t as powerful as Intel’s 12th Gen H-series chips, which are found in the Dell XPS 15 and even the i7-1280P (six performance cores at 1.8-4.8 GHz, eight efficiency cores at 1.3-3.6 GHz, 20 threads, and 24MB of cache) we tested in the Dell XPS 13 Plus and has higher base power and max turbo power consumption.

The computer’s 17-inch display has a 16:10 aspect ratio of 2560 x 1600 pixels. According to LG, the IPS screen can attain 350 nits of brightness and cover at least 95% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut.

With the machine’s 80 Wh battery, LG claims a nine-hour battery life, although it didn’t explain how it arrived at that estimate. The port options on a 0.78-inch thick laptop, though, might be worse. In addition to the Thunderbolt 4 port, HDMI 2.1, a 3.5 mm socket, a Micro SD card reader, and RJ45 Ethernet, there are three USB-A ports.

A webcam and AI software that can determine if the user is in front of the computer are also included in the new 17-inch device. These features are becoming more and more widespread in laptops.

The Glance function will lock the computer if the user is farther away from the camera than 13 to 29 inches and will obscure the screen if someone is looking over their shoulder. The computer can detect which screen you are seeing in multi-display setups and will automatically shift the pointer there. The underlying technology, from Mirametrix, comes with the unsettling features of an always-on webcam and a distracting pair of lights, and it periodically believed someone was behind me when there was no one there when we tried it on Lenovo’s IdeaPad Slim 7i Pro. Of course, you have the option to turn off Glance.

The LG 17U70Q costs $1,600 (Rs 1,27,917). LG also announced the Ultra PC 16” (16U70Q) yesterday for people looking for something smaller with more storage but without a dedicated GPU. It costs between $999(Rs79,868) and $1299(Rs1,03,853) and has an AMD Ryzen 7 5825U, up to 1TB of storage, 16GB of LPDDR4x-4266 dual-channel memory, and a 1920 x 1200 IPS display.
