Oppo Reno 12 may feature all-new Dimensity 8250 chip

Today, MediaTek held the MediaTek Dimensity Developers Conference (MDDC) to announce the Dimensity 9300 Plus chipset. At the same event, the company also confirmed the existence of an all-new chip, the Dimensity 8250. It is speculated that the upcoming Reno 12 series will be the first to feature the said chipset.

The technical details of the Dimensity 8250 have not been confirmed yet. However, it is said to feature MediaTek’s “Star Speed Engine,” which is available in more powerful chipsets like the Dimensity 8300 and Dimensity 9000-series. The Star Speed Engine is tailored to deliver flagship-level gaming performance. It’s engineered to deliver prolonged frame stability and minimise heat generation during intensive gaming sessions, offering an optimised experience for demanding games on flagship devices.

Reports have claimed that the Reno 12 Pro will come equipped with the Dimensity 9200 Plus. However, there has been some confusion about the chip that powers the Reno 12. While some leaks have claimed that it has the Dimensity 8200 chip onboard, others have said it will feature the Dimensity 8300. However, it now appears that the company will be using the latest Dimensity 8250 to power the Reno 12.

According to reliable leaker Digital Chat Station, the Dimensity 8250, built on TSMC’s 4nm process, will offer a configuration of 1 x 3.1GHz Cortex-A78 cores, 3 x 3.0GHz Cortex-A78 cores, and 4 x 2.0GHz Cortex-A55 cores, along with a Mali-G610 MC6 GPU. Commenting on the Reno 12 Pro’s Dimensity 9200 Plus chip, the leaker claimed that the chip will be advertised as the Dimensity 9200 Plus Star Speed Edition.

Oppo is currently silent about the Reno 12 and 12 Pro. However, leaks suggest that the series will debut in the fourth or fifth week of the month. It is advisable to wait for additional reports to learn more about the Reno 12 lineup.
