PUBG: Battlegrounds, previously known as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, is a battle royale game developed by PUBG Studios and published by Krafton. The game was inspired by the Japanese film Battle Royale, which was released in 2000. The game was released on December 20, 2017.
This game is based on the previous mods created by Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene for other games and expanded into a standalone game under Greene’s creative direction. It is the first game in the PUBG Universe series.
In the game, up to 100 players parachute onto an island where they scavenge for weapons and equipment to help other players while avoiding getting killed themselves. Over time, the safe area on the map decreases in size, directing players into the tightening space which forces encounters and the last surviving player or team wins the round.
Players can choose to enter the match solo, a duo, or with a small team of up to four people. Other than this map, there is a map named ‘Livik’ which is smaller with a more limited time.
The game is available on Windows, Android, iOS, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Stadia, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
