Android 14 Operating System Officially Released: Rolling Out to Select Pixel Smartphones

Google has finally unveiled its latest Android 14 operating system and the brand has pushed the Android 14 source to AOSP(Android Open Source Project). Currently, the update for the operating system is being rolled out to select Pixel smartphones, and later this year will be made available to other smartphone devices from brands like Samsung, iQOO, Nothing, OnePlus, OPPO, Realme, Sharp, Sony, Tecno, Vivo and Xiaomi.

The Android 14 operating is made to improve productivity and at the same time, it will also be enhancing the performance, privacy, security, and customization features of the device. Check out some of the exciting new features of the operating system below.

Android 14 – Changes & Features

Firstly, on the performance side, the first major change brought is by freezing cached applications giving them no CPU time. Optimized broadcasts also enabled the operating system to keep these cached files frozen for a longer period. With both these changes the app launch speed has become faster and memory footprints have been reduced.

Coming to the customization side, some of the changes include bigger fonts of up to 200% with non-linear scaling, per-app language preferences, regional preferences, and options to bring in grammatical inflections for more personalized needs.

New media and graphic capabilities are also part of Android 14. It now has support for Ultra HDR image format, and also upgrades and improves camera extensions like zoom, focus, post view, and many more. The operating system will also be bringing support for lossless audio formats. It also supports custom meshes and a hardware buffer renderer for improved graphics capabilities.

To improve the productivity of its users, some of the features that have been introduced are the latest Android Runtime (ART), Credential Manager, passkeys support, Health Connect, superior system share-sheets, and foreground services that are much more consistent and reliable.

Regarding the privacy and security features, users will start receiving location-sharing updates, a partial access feature to select photos and videos, block apps targeting older SDKs, more secure full-screen intent notifications, safer implicit intents, and safer dynamic code loading features.
