October 2023 – Wear OS 4 Update for Pixel Watches

All the supported Pixel Watch devices that are currently running on Wear OS 3.5 will be considered eligible to receive the update and it will be arriving as an OTA update. Along with the next Wear OS 4 operating system, the update will also be bringing some new features, better personal safety experience, bug fixes, improvements in battery life, and a few performance upgrades.

The update will bring a new watch transfer feature with which users won’t have to factory reset the smartwatch anymore when they switch to a new Pixel smartphone. The Pixel Watch will automatically sync to the device. The backup and restore feature also does the same when users switch to a new Pixel Watch. The data will be automatically transferred to the new device.

With the update, Google’s Calendar app for smartwatches will also be pre-installed on the device. Users will be able to view event & task notifications, a 30-day schedule, navigate to event locations, and do much more from their smartwatch.

Many safety features are also present, as mentioned. Some of the features that will be brought include Safety Check, Emergency Sharing, and Emergency Info. Users will also be able to keep their important medical details on the smartwatch and share them when needed via Medical ID Info.

New customization features are also present in the update, such as a new text-to-speech engine that supports faster and more reliable TalkBack support, bold texts, improved magnification options, along an audio balance feature that helps in adjusting the intensity of sounds.

Enhanced notification features like smart link recognition of phone numbers or addresses which allows users to perform functions like tap to call, message, and/or get directions, embedded media previews enabling users to view images and GIFs quickly, and enriched alerts are also part of the update.

The update will be rolled out globally and will have a firmware version of TWD4.2301005.002. Once the update is made available on the smartwatch, users will be notified of it, and on updating, will be able to experience all these upgrades.
