OnePlus clears the air regarding its update policy for the OnePlus 13 series

When the first news emerged about OnePlus’s unusual update policy where the preinstalled OS was counted as the first OS upgrade, not only for smartphones but also for smartwatches, many users took to X to express their concerns. Several users questioned how OnePlus could count the preinstalled OS as an upgrade and mentioned that they would feel bad about such a practice.
However, OnePlus, through its official Indian X account, clarified that it does not count the preinstalled operating system as the first upgrade. Instead, the company confirmed that the OnePlus 13 will receive OS upgrades as promised until Android 19 (Source: OnePlus IN on X).
At the time of launch, both the OnePlus 13 and 13R were promised to get four Android OS upgrades and six years of security patch updates. Although the support page indicates that security patch updates support will end in 2030 for the OnePlus 13 and in 2029 for the OnePlus 13R instead of 2031. Could be a typo error, hopefully, OnePlus will take care of this.
For now, OnePlus has confirmed that the preinstalled operating system does not count as the first operating system upgrade and that the OnePlus 13 series will receive updates up to Android 19.
