Samsung Expands One UI 6 Watch Update to Older Galaxy Watch Models
Samsung has announced the rollout of its One UI 6 Watch update, extending new health and fitness features previously exclusive to the Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch7 to older Galaxy Watch models. The update will be available for Galaxy Watch6, Watch6 Classic, Watch5, Watch5 Pro, Watch4, Watch4 Classic, and Watch FE.
The expanded update introduces several AI-powered health monitoring features. A new Energy Score provides users with an intuitive measure of their physical and mental condition, calculated from multiple health metrics including sleep patterns, activity levels, and heart rate variability. The system offers personalized recommendations using Galaxy AI to help users improve their health metrics.
Sleep tracking capabilities have been enhanced with an advanced AI algorithm that monitors various parameters:
- Movement during sleep
- Sleep latency
- Heart rate
- Respiratory rate
Notably, the FDA-authorized Sleep Apnea detection feature, which can identify potential signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea, is now available to a broader range of Galaxy Watch users.
For fitness enthusiasts, the update introduces two key features:
- Race: A real-time performance comparison tool for running and cycling
- Workout Routine: A customizable exercise combination feature for personalized fitness programs
The update also includes new watch face options:
- Simple Digital: For minimalist preferences
- Ultra Info Board: For at-a-glance information access
When paired with compatible Galaxy smartphones, users can access additional features:
- AI-powered Suggested replies for messages
- Double Pinch Gestures for controlling smartphone functions like answering calls, dismissing alarms, and taking photos
Samsung notes that features may vary by market, carrier, model, and paired smartphone. The company will provide Galaxy AI features free until the end of 2025 on supported devices.
