Why is Now Bar Placed Higher on Optical Fingerprint Supported Devices?
The South Korean smartphone maker – Samsung has already by now launched a few of its latest Galaxy smartphone models (Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy F06 5G, Galaxy A06 5G, Galaxy A26 5G, Galaxy A36 5G, & Galaxy A56 5G) with the One UI 7 custom skin out of the box, and via the beta program, older Galaxy models (Galaxy S24 series) were also offered the beta version of the One UI 7 custom skin.
The Now Bar is as mentioned a very important and notable feature of the One UI 7 custom skin, and it is a pill-shaped UI element present on the lock screen and which displays real-time notifications and updates. So far, via updates and reports, the placement of the Now Bar on One UI 7 devices was believed to be present only at the bottom, but in Galaxy devices that support an under-display optical fingerprint scanner, the placement of the Now Bar pill is a little higher, above the fingerprint reader.
The obvious question that users may have in their minds is ‘why?’ When it comes to the Galaxy S25 series and Galaxy S24 series models that have been running on One UI 7 (stable and beta respectively), the devices support an under-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner that is positioned higher on the display. In the case of side-mounted fingerprint supported Galaxy devices too (like Galaxy F06 5G, Galaxy A06 5G, and Galaxy A26 5G), there is no fingerprint reader on the display. However, when it comes to the under-display optical fingerprint supported Galaxy devices (Galaxy A36 5G & Galaxy A56 5G), the positioning of the fingerprint scanner is lower on the display, thereby overlapping the Now Bar’s actual target area.
To counter this, Samsung has positioned the One UI 7’s Now Bar a little higher on under-display optical fingerprint scanning supported Galaxy devices as shown in the above picture. Also to add, this is the Galaxy A56 5G with the Now Bar featured on the lock screen display.
