With just few days left for the announcement of Xiaomi HyperOS, Lei remembers the 13 years of exploration

Xiaomi has finally announced that it will present its much-awaited Xiaomi 14 series and HyperOS on 26 October in China. Earlier it was tipped to launch on October 31 in China but now the official launch date has been confirmed. Now when the company is left with only a few days to launch, Lei Jun remembers the 13 years of exploration that started with the birth of MIUI in 2010.

It was based on 2.2 Android Froyo. An interesting fact is that MIUI was born when the Xiaomi smartphone did not even exist. Reports say that the company was in talks with other brands to mount MIUI on their smartphones and promote its sales in China.

Another milestone is 2014 when the company unified IoT device connection protocol and common IoT modules release. This was the same year when the Chinese government decided to ban the use of Google apps which forced Xiaomi to adapt accordingly. In 2014 the company brought a notable upgrade with new icons and new animations.

In 2016 the company introduced Xiaomi Vela with the intent to bring all shared AIoT technologies under one roof. It’s basically an IoT software platform based on the built-in NuttX open-source operating system and has three main components. Then came 2019 when pre-development of the Xiaomi Mina OS proprietary microkernel security system was initiated.

This was successfully launched on smartphones in the laboratory and the report says that its technical results were integrated in the Xiaomi HyperOS OS. In 2021 Xiaomi began working on the development of car OS. And then came the much-awaited 2023 when Xiaomi announced HyperOS. Lei Jun founder and CEO of Xiaomi wrote the new OS “integrates over 200 product categories and can connect 820 million devices”.

Earlier Lei Jun confirmed that HyperOS is not an entirely new operating system but is based on the integration of the deeply evolved Android and the self-developed Vela system.
