Xiaomi’s Digital Car Key Feature, Built in Collaboration with Google and BMW: Roll-Out Soon

Xiaomi at the MWC 2023 event held in Barcelona announced the company’s plan to introduce a new feature to its Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro smartphones. The digital car key feature which the company had introduced in collaboration with Google and BMW will enable Xiaomi users to use their digital car key as a replacement for the physical key.

Xiaomi’s Digital Car Key Feature

The latest digital car key feature the Chinese electronics manufacturer, Xiaomi introduced at the MWC 2023 event, is truly a remarkable feature for users who owns both a Xiaomi smartphone and a BMW car. The new feature that is built in collaboration with Google and BMW will enable users to lock, unlock and start the engine of the car, freeing its users from relying on a physical key.

The feature was said to arrive on Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro smartphones but is also to arrive on other Xiaomi devices as well, including the previous Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro smartphones. The company will be rolling out the new feature to various Xiaomi smartphones in the second quarter of this year.

Xiaomi has still not yet given any clarity regarding the BMW models that will be compatible with the new feature but, a report states that only the cars made after July 2020 will have the compatibility.

The digital car key will be compatible with Google’s Wallet and other such applications and, apart from locking, unlocking, and turning on the engine, the digital car key can also be shared to upto 6 users. This again frees its users from having to share their physical keys with others.

For those who are wondering about the safety measures, Xiaomi hasn’t compromised on its safety. The feature uses encryption technology and only authorized users will be able to operate the car with the digital key. Even if your smartphone device gets stolen, the feature can be turned off remotely.
