Remaining India’s T20I members to link up with India’s ODI Squad in Ahemdabad
Sportskeeda reports that India’s T20I squad players have been asked to report to Ahmedabad on Monday (February 7). West Indies and India are playing three ODIs at Motera before they head to Kolkata for three T20Is.
For the Windies series, India’s ODI and T20I squads share several players. Following the third ODI on Friday, six members of the ODI squad will fly home, but there will be four additions for the 20-over leg beginning February 16. The players are seamers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Harshal Patel, and all-rounders Axar Patel and Venkatesh Iyer.
Despite the unknown status of Patel, who contracted Covid-19 last week, the BCCI and the team management have asked the remaining three players to join the ODI squad in Ahmedabad today. Following their mandatory three-day quarantine, they will travel with the rest of the squad to Kolkata in a bubble-to-bubble transfer on Saturday. Thus, Rahul Dravid and Co. will be able to prepare for the T20I without having to worry about isolation periods.
Openers Shikhar Dhawan, Mayank Agarwal and Ruturaj Gaikwad, all-rounder Deepak Hooda, and bowlers Kuldeep Yadav and Prasidh Krishna will not travel to Kolkata.
After four players tested positive for Covid-19 before the start of the series, Ishan Kishan, who was initially in the T20I squad, and M Shahrukh Khan, who was a standby, were added to the ODI squad. Agarwal, 30, was also a last-minute replacement.
Tamil Nadu’s Shahrukh Khan and R Sai Kishore will remain standby options for the T20I series.
