Rohit Sharma returns for the limited-overs series at home against the West Indies
Following a lengthy injury break, Rohit Sharma returns for the limited-overs series at home against the West Indies. In the three-match ODI and T20I series starting on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the 34-year-old will lead the Indian team. In the ODI series against South Africa, India were beaten 0-3 and Rohit’s return will be a welcome boost to the team. He has an excellent record against the West Indies in India and he will aim to continue this trend.
Sharma has scored 1,523 runs in 31 ODIs against the Caribbean, but 68 per cent of those runs (1,040) have come in India.
The Indian batting star’s numbers improve drastically when he plays against the West Indies in India, compared to playing outside the country.
He has played 15 One-Day Internationals against West Indies outside india, scoring 483 runs at an average of 40.25 and a strike-rate of 77.15. Rohit has also made five half-centuries. Outside of the country, he has yet to score a century against the Windies.
Rohit’s numbers improved significantly against the West Indies at home, however. Rohit has scored 1,040 runs against the West Indies in 16 ODIs at home, an average of 80 and a strike rate of 100.28.
During his career, he has scored three hundreds and six half-centuries.
He is the third Indian batter to score 1000-plus runs against an opposition in India, after Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.
