According to the sources, we came to know that Belarus, Europe’s largest isolated republic bordering the two warring states, has found itself in a perilous political situation as a result of its proximity to Russia. Despite limits already in place following the contentious election of its President, Alexander Lukashenko, the country is now the target of Western economic sanctions aimed at deterring Russia’s war on Ukraine.
Moreover, Thousands of Russian forces surged over Belarus’s border with Ukraine, barely a few hundred kilometres from Kyiv, in the early stages of the war. As the Russians piled up the casualties, Belarus’ hospitals and morgues became overburdened. After being forced back by strong Ukrainian opposition and their operational deficiencies, the Russians retreated from the Kyiv region via Belarus.
As per the sources, it seems that Belarus is inextricably linked to the outcome of the Ukraine crisis. It’s one of many reasons why what happens in Ukraine will have far-reaching consequences well beyond its boundaries.
