The Russia-affiliated group, Killnet has claimed to hack several Lithuanian government and public websites. The group has taken the responsibility for the cyber attack on the Telegram with a video message. The video message contained the reason behind the cyber attack which is in response to the Lithuanian sanction of Russia following the EU sanctions earlier this year in regard to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The pro-Russian hacker group has also demanded in the video to allow transport of materials to Kaliningrad via Lithuania to avoid further interruption of government sites.
Reportedly, Killnet has already taken down several Lithuanian websites such as Lithuania’s State tax Inspectorate (STI) and B1.lt, the country’s largest accounting service providers which were temporarily offline following the attack. The pro-Russian hacker group also claimed that they have taken down websites that serve the government.
Killnet has conducted its attacks via a distributed denial-of-service or DDoS by disrupting the server’s traffic with the help of a threat actor. Killnet has soon become active following Russia’s invasion targeting Five Eyes countries such as the US, UK, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia.
According to a cyber security advisory, “U.S., Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and UK cybersecurity authorities urge critical infrastructure network defenders to prepare for and mitigate potential cyber threats.” After that Killnet has also targeted Nine Eyes countries following the EU sanctions on Russian goods and materials.
The Anonymous collective has declared cyber war against pro-Russian hacker groups on their Twitter account previously and the Russian Federal agency, by leaking over 360,000 of government files.
The Collective has successfully DDoSed the Killnet websites, and yet again they are watching over the Anon hackers who help Killnet secretly. The Collective has claimed to take side with the Lithuanian people on Twitter by disrupting Killnet again like before.
The #Anonymous collective is officially in cyber war against the pro-Russian hacker group #Killnet.
