Beware of this message “Paytm account has been blocked”, you might end up losing your savings

We have been covering tech, Auto, movies, and other domains since beginning to bring out authentic news for you but other than that, we understand it as our responsibility to make you aware of frauds and hackers so that you don’t fall prey to those malicious people. Recently we busted a fake Flipkart customer service team pretending to help customers. We posted a call recording between one of our reporters and a fraud who was trying to take remote access to the device by persuading us to install a remote access app.

This time it seems we have come across one more fraud which can lead anyone easily to lose their money. Frauds send a message with a link which is something like this “Dear customer your “Paytm” account has been blocked. Please update your PAN card immediately within 24 hours. Click here (link)”. We know that people have become aware of such frauds but this message needed to be mentioned because it has been designed in such a way that a user can fall prey to it. The link added in the message ends with the “PAN” first red flag. As we clicked on the link we got something like this.

Here you can see that the website has been designed in a way to look like a Paytm website. In the left bottom corner of the screen, you can see the space asking for “Registered Paytm Mobile Number”, a second red flag to look more authentic. We went a step ahead by taking risks to bring out the truth and filled in the phone number which took us to the next screen which asked for the OTP for Paytm KYC. From link to website, everything has been developed to persuade the victim that they are on an authentic site who eventually ends up losing all their money.

So this was a fraudulent activity that is going on but the question arises how to stay safe from it? We found that this message has been sent from a phone number, which is quite unusual because if any such message is sent it appears from Paytm and most importantly Paytm never asks for such things. So next time make sure to check these things before clicking on any website sent through a message.
