Big Russian Website Mail.ru website hacked by GNG

GNG, a hacking group affiliated with Anonymous, hacks and leaks the database of Russia’s largest website, Mail.ru, and dumps the database and uploads it via FTP.

After invading Ukrainian territory on February 24th, 2022, Russia has come under the scrutiny of hacktivists, particularly the Anonymous collective. Since then, Russian IT infrastructure, including government websites, state-run TV channels, online video streaming platforms, and so on, has been targeted on a daily basis.

This is not the first time Mail.ru has been compromised. Russian hackers stole 57 million Mail.ru, 33 million Hotmail, 40 million Yahoo, and 24 million Gmail accounts from Russian users in May 2016. In addition, Mail.ru’s subsidiary VK.com was hacked in June, with hackers stealing 100 million accounts and selling them on a Dark Web forum.
