A number of instances have come out showing the havoc caused by fake apps. There are a number of applications available on the internet that are operated by foreign countries and exploit users in various ways. The Indian government always makes sure to inform users to not share any OTP with unauthorized persons.
Despite such a mass level of advisories and guidelines some Indians fall prey to these apps and end up losing data, money, and in extreme cases even life. Cyber Dost is a Cyber Safety and Cyber Security awareness handle maintained by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

The Twitter handle of Cyber Dost shared a post in which it wrote “Fake apps may infect your phone and may steal your personal information! If you are a victim of cybercrime dial 1930 and file a complaint on cybercrime.gov.in”
Along with this Cyber Dost shared an image in which it shared some of the guidelines. These guidelines suggest that SMS forwarding apps can enable cyber fraudsters by forwarding OTP from your device. You should avoid clicking on suspicious links and check the reviews of apps.
And if anybody sends you a link to any app through a message or WhatsApp it can steal data from your device. There are some apps that ask for multiple permissions. In that case, you should not give permission to access the data that you don’t want to give. And it also suggests not installing any unverified apps.
Nowadays a user carries most of the sensitive information on their smartphones which makes them vulnerable to cyber fraud. So you should not only be aware of these fraudsters but also make sure to inform cyber police in case anything happens.
