Dominican Republic’s government agency suffers Quantum ransomware attack
Quantum ransomware, one of the severe variant of ransomware has cyberattacked the government agency named Dominican Republic’s Instituto Agrario Dominicano. The attackers have encrypted several services and workstations, throughout the government agency.
Accordingly, the agency suffered ransomware attack on August 18th, totally impacting the agency’s operation. Four physical servers and eight virtual servers have attacked the agency. Consequently, the attackers have claimed for more than 600 thousand dollars of ransom amount from the agency. However, it has been found that the IP addresses of the attackers were from the U.S. and Russia.
The hackers have claimed that they have stolen around 1TB of data of the agency and threatened the agency that they will leak the data if the agency did not pay a ransom amount publicly.
The Instituto Agrario Dominicano (IAD) is an agency of the Ministry of Agriculture. It works on executing the Agrarian Reform programs in the country.
