Fake brand ambassador scams target content creators through OnePlus and Hasselblad impersonators

Online scammers have escalated their tactics by impersonating major technology brands OnePlus and Hasselblad, targeting users with fraudulent brand ambassador opportunities. These scams have emerged as part of a broader pattern of deceptive online practices targeting influencers.

Recent examples show scammers sending direct messages claiming to represent these prestigious brands, offering attractive “brand ambassador” positions with promises of free products and exclusive benefits. In one instance, an impersonator claiming to be “Victor Hasselblad AB, Brand Director at Hasselblad cameras” offered monthly packages containing free items and exclusive discount codes. Similarly, a fake OnePlus representative promised a three-month contract with 15 free items of choice.

OnePlus has officially addressed these concerns, stating: “OnePlus will never ask for money or resolve complaints through unofficial channels. We only communicate through our official, verified OnePlus accounts.” The company emphasizes that legitimate communications come exclusively through @oneplus.com email addresses or verified social media accounts.

Key warning signs of these scams include:

  • Messages from unverified accounts
  • Too-good-to-be-true offers of free products
  • Poor grammar and spelling in official communications
  • Requests for personal information or screenshots
  • Promises of exclusive “cyber team” registration processes

The company advises users to report suspicious activities immediately through their official reporting channels and avoid engaging with unverified accounts claiming to represent the brand.

For creators and social media users, the safest approach is to verify any brand collaboration offers through official company websites and verified social media channels before engaging in any business relationships.

Users who encounter suspicious messages or potential scams are encouraged to document the interaction and report it through official brand channels to help prevent others from falling victim to similar schemes.
