Google App Being Identified as “Virus” on Huawei Smartphones: Reason Still Unclear

Huawei smartphone users have been going through a panic stage ever since their smartphone devices started identifying the Google app as a threat or virus. The reason why this has happened still remains unclear.

Here’s more about it.

Google App – Virus on Huawei Smartphones

It was a Huawei P10 smartphone user who had first shared about the issue in his device which identified Google as a trojan. The user is said to have uninstalled the application and had changed each and every password on his device. Later, even after re-installing the Google app, the device still recognized the app as a threat with the user poising his doubts about whether the issue was with the Google app or with his smartphone device.

Following the post shared by the user mentioned above, many other Huawei users came forward to report the issue, and it was revealed to be an issue that has occurred only on Huawei devices(with Google Mobile Services/GMS certificate). The screenshots that are being shared categorize the Google app under the threat category, and it has been identified as a “TorjanSMS-PA” threat.

From the screenshots, it is also understood that the device considers the app to have been infected and is mentioned to have been sending SMS privately, and is stated to have enticed users to pay with adult content, download or install apps, or steal private information. It is also being advised to uninstall the app from the device.

There has been no particular reason identified as to why this issue has occurred, but it is believed that it might have been caused due to a glitch in the Optimizer app that comes pre-installed on the device. To fix the virus notification issue, a simple solution is to clear the data and cache from the storage section in the Optimizer app.
