Lockbit claims to have breached the Italian Internal Revenue Service

Lockbit ransomware gang is putting up claims that they breached the network of the Italian Internal Revenue Service (L’Agenzia delle Entrate) Italian authorities are investigating the claims for the moment.

The ransomware gang has placed claims of stealing 100 GB of data. This includes company documents, scans, financial reports and contracts. They have stated that they will leak the data online if the Italian tax agency doesn’t pay a ransom demand until August 1st.

The Italian revenue agency has requested more info from Sogei (Societa Generale d’Informatica) SpA, a Ministry of Economy and Finance public company that manages the financial administration’s technological infrastructure. 

It also manages IT infrastructure used by other Italian agencies. This includes the Ministries of Justice, Interior, and Education, the State Attorney General and the Department of the Treasury. 

Sogei SpA shared an official statement and said that it found no evidence of a cyberattack that impacted the Italian revenue agency.

The company has stated that they did not find any occurrence proof of a cyberattack from the first analysis carried out. They also stated that no data has been stolen from platforms and technological infrastructures of the Financial Administration. 

Sogei SpA additionally said that the company is collaborating and supporting an ongoing joint investigation coordinated by the Italian National Cybersecurity Agency and the Postal Police.
