Microsoft planning to block forceful enabling of Office macros
Microsoft has been planning to block its Visual Basic for Application (VBA) responsible for creating macros to initiate automated repetitive word-and-data processing functions by default in MS Office apps. Reportedly Microsoft has advised its admins to prevent enabling forceful macros in the Office files which can be easily downloaded from the internet.
According to the tech giant’s Product Manager named Kellie Eickmeyer, “Following user feedback, we have rolled back this change temporarily while we make some additional changes to enhance usability. This is a temporary change, and we are fully committed to making the default change for all users.”
However, the company hasn’t yet provided any details of changes regarding improvement of usability but it is quite certain that the company’s previous plan of enabling macros for Office users is delayed.
According to the company reports Office users were forced to enable macros by ticking an unblock option in the properties of a file. Microsoft is taking measures to enable macros on the trusted files and send the Office users to a support website from where they can retrieve information to enable macros on a per-file basis.
The company has stated the reason for stopping the forceful enabling of macros is because hackers are targeting Office files via malicious macros for years. Microsoft company has been thinking to take this measure in an attempt to reduce further vulnerabilities to provide users with a secure experience.
