Netflix Users Now Being Targeted by Cyber Criminals as Part of a New Phishing Email Scam

Cyber criminals are always finding out more and more convincing scams targeting people and now, Netflix users are being targeted with a highly convincing phishing email scam. This scam which has been circulating over a couple of weeks urges Netflix users to update their payment details, claiming that there is trouble with current billing information.
Here’s more about it.
New Phishing Email Scam Targets Netflix Users
While most of us have already come across multiple suspicious scam mails in the past, which can be easily and evidently identified as scams by the spelling mistakes and wrong brand designs present, the phishing email scam that has been targeting Netflix users for a few weeks is near perfect without any spelling mistakes along with a better design outlook. On top, the email content is also well-written without any particular elements that could raise suspicions, making Netflix users an easy target for this scam.
This scam mail which carries the subject line – ‘Let’s tackle your payment details’ drops the message ‘Your account is on hold’, further pointing out that there seems to be some trouble with the current billing information, urging users that it would be better to update their payment details. An email link has also been added with an ‘Update Account Now’ message. On clicking, users are taken to a sign-in page that looks quite exactly like the official website of Netflix, where they are asked for details such as Netflix username, password, home address, and card details.
For Netflix users, if such a mail or a similar looking mail arrives, the best possible way to check whether it is genuine or not is by looking at the email address. In the above case, it was sent from an iCloud email domain, rather than from the ‘@netflix.com’ domain. Users may also verify the genuineness of the website too by looking at the URL for any issues or slight variations. If still they are unable to find out the authenticity, they are best advised to log in to their official Netflix account and perform the requirement directly there instead of clicking on a link provided via an email. Also, Netflix never asks for account details and other relevant information via an email, as mentioned on its official website.
Beware and stay safe from such scams.
