O2’s AI Granny ‘Daisy’ Outsmarts Phone Scammers by Keeping Them on the Line

Online scams have been a growing concern these days, especially via phone calls, where some people successfully ditch the scammers while some fall into their trap due to their convincing tactics. Well to overcome scams like these, a UK telecom company O2 has created a human-like AI granny called Daisy.

Who is Daisy?

Daisy is a lifelike granny that is completely indistinguishable from a real person. It is created using a range of cutting edge AI technology and trained with the help of one of YouTube’s best-known scambaiter, Jim Browning. The company has revealed that Daisy is so lifelike that it has successfully kept numerous fraudsters on calls for 40 minutes at a time.

As part of Virgin Media O2’s onion Swerve the Scammers campaign, scam baiter Daisy has been created.  Daisy tells stories of her family, her passion for knitting, and false personal information including made-up bank details to prevent the scammers from targeting real victims.

As per a statement by Murray Mackenzie, Director of Fraud at Virgin Media O2, “The newest member of our fraud prevention team, Daisy, is turning the tables on scammers- outsmarting and outmaneuvering them at their own cruel game simply by keeping them online.”

O2 has till now blocked 89 million texts with the help of 7726 free reporting services. The company has also invested heavily fight against fraud, rolling out AI-powered spam-fighting tools and new caller identification services free to all mobile customers to help protect them.

Now with this new AI-powered scam baiter, Daisy, users need not worry about the scammers. All you need to do is report a suspicious call and let this AI granny handle the matter with her clever tactics.
