A LockBit group ransomware attack allegedly targeted Orion Innovation, a business that specializes in digital transformation.
Orion Innovation, a multiple Emmy Award-winning company, creates solutions for gathering information about TV viewers.
It has also collaborated with well-known Fortune 1,000 companies like IBM, Red Hat, Cisco, AT&T, Bank of America, and Major League Baseball.
Despite having its headquarters in New Jersey, the company has offices all over the world, including the UK, Russia, Israel, India, Australia, and Germany.
The leading ransomware gang posted the company to a list of victims on a deep web-based leak website after alleging an attack on it on Tuesday.
Although it is still unknown how much data LockBit claims to have stolen from Orion Innovation, the US-based business has until September 1 to pay the ransom.
LockBit, one of the most well-known ransomware companies, typically employs a double extortion tactic in which data from the victim is stolen before the ransomware program is started, locking the company out of their computers.
The data is retained by the hackers after the devices have been encrypted as a bonus for paying the ransom. LockBit distributes the stolen data, which typically includes sensitive information on the company’s customers and employees if a ransom is not paid.
Despite still being under attack from a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, LockBit has claimed attacks on eight other organizations, including Orion Innovation, after publishing the data it stole from cyber security company Entrust last week.
The most recent victims include a construction company, several law firms, and a drug and alcohol treatment center.
LockBit has also been accused of hacking a French hospital close to Paris and holding it for $10 million in ransom, even though the company is not listed on the group’s dark web domain.
