TB Kawashima, the Japanese automotive supplier is targeted by the LockBit ransomware attack
TB Kawashima declares that one of its branches has undergone a severe cyber attack. TB Kawashima is a part of the Japanese automotive fabric and component manufacturing company Toyota Boshoku Corporation responsible for providing cutting-edge technology and innovation to produce seats, interior & exterior design, unit components, textile,s and other components for vehicles.
Reports state that the company recently faced a severe attack from the LockBit ransomware group. The LockBit ransomware functions by encrypting device information once it gains entry into the corporate device. The threat actor then asks for a ransom amount of money in exchange for a description of the corporate system.
According to a source, TB Kawashima has announced that data of a Thai sales company has been breached. In response to the attack, the company took immediate action by turning off the compromised devices. Surprisingly, the company did not inform its manufacturing group the Toyota Boshoku Corp. of the data breach.
According to reports, the LockBit ransomware group has claimed that they have performed a data breach at TB Kawashima. The LockBit ransomware group has stated that they attacked the company on June 17 and now they have been allegedly leaking all stolen data on their data leak site called LOCKBIT2.0.
According to a report from the cybersecurity company Rapid7, there has been a massive amount of data breaches in the top tire automotive and transportation industry between April 2020 to February 2022.
Several other companies also have been victims of such cyberattacks including Nissan, Toyota, Hondo, and others. Right now Tb Kawashima’s website is down for maintenance and will soon recover from this type of ransomware attack.
