World’s largest distributor of books to libraries, Baker and Taylor became a victim of ransomware
On Monday, Baker & Taylor, which describes itself as the world’s largest distributor of books to libraries worldwide, confirmed that it’s still working towards restoring systems after being hit by ransomware more than a week ago.
On August 23, Baker & Taylor said that its servers were down after an outage affecting the company’s phone systems, offices, and service centers.
One day later, the library services provider revealed that disruptions to its business-critical systems stemming from the incident would continue through the week while technical teams work on restoring impacted servers, Bleeping Computer reports.
Baker & Taylor in a statement said that as an update, the source of the disruption is a ransomware attack launched against their network over the weekend, which they have been working to rectify since then.
They further said that Cyber-attacks are a rising threat to all companies, and unfortunately they, like others fell victim to a hacker’s attack. The IT team and outside experts are working nonstop to restore the systems.
At the moment, there’s no information regarding what ransomware group or affiliate is behind the attack.
Baker & Taylor is a privately held company founded over 190 years ago.
