Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, Dimensity 9400 tipped to be based on TSMC’s 3nm process

The Qualcomm Summit brought a significant amount of information out there that includes AI, the Snapdragon X Elite PC chipset, its ambitious Oryon core, and much more. Qualcomm announced at the summit that the Oryon core will come to the smartphone chipset in 2024. The company remained tight-lipped about any further details and it suggested that the Oryon CPU can be seen with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset.

As the recently announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset still sticks with Arm CPU cores, one that can be expected is none other than the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Earlier, a report stated that the Gen 8 4 chipset is going to be 40% more powerful than the 8 Gen 3.

A reliable tipster named DCS recently wrote on Weibo that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset and Dimensity 9400 chipset are based on the TSMC 3nm process. Further, the tipster wrote that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 has a self-developed architecture that suggests the Oryon core of the chipset. The image of the Weibo post has been shared by an X user named Revengus. The user further wrote in the comment section that previously Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 had both version Oryon and ARM but now there won’t be any ARM reference core.

It will be the first time since 2016 that the company will feature a custom CPU core in the chipset. As per the reports, Xiaomi 15 or the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra can be the one to come with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset.
