State Owned News Channel Russia-24 Went Offline Worldwide
Russia-24 (Russian: Роcсия-24) is a Russian state-owned news station that has gone offline worldwide. The channel broadcasts in Russian. It focuses on domestic issues while covering big national and international events. VGTRK is the owner of the channel.
The broadcast of this channel commenced in Russia on January 1, 2007, on the West Coast of the US on February 7, in Serbia on May 19, 2008, and in Kyrgyzstan on October 9, 2008. On March 10, 2014, VGTRK Crimea began broadcasting.
Evgeny Bekasov is the channel’s Chief Editor (since 2012).
The channel seeks to provide a comprehensive and unbiased picture of life in Russia’s provinces, from the European exclave of Kaliningrad to Vladivostok in the Far East.
Until January 1, 2010, when the state-owned VGTRK renamed its channels, the channel was known as Vesti.
As a consequence of Russia’s war on Ukraine in 2022, the channel was blocked in Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and the EU. The broadcaster wrongfully stated that the Bucha massacre was faked, implying that images of actors arranging mannequins in a movie studio in St. Petersburg were Ukrainian soldiers posing as corpses.
According to a tweet by Anonymous Operations on April 18, it is known that Russia-24 has gone offline worldwide.
It is concluded that due to the false claims made by the channel, the channel has been banned not only nationwide but also worldwide. And it seems that the common people are happy with the news channel going offline all around the globe.
