Sunil Gavaskar came in support of Virat Kohli’s form, says the star cricketer is lacking luck
Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar played down concerns about Virat Kohli’s form, saying the former captain is not going through a slump, but luck has not been on his side lately. Virat Kohli failed to convert a start yet again in the 2nd ODI against the West Indies in Ahmedabad, according to Gavaskar.
It has not been easy for Kohli to trouble the scorers in the first two ODIs of the ongoing series against the West Indies. He was dismissed on a bouncer in the first ODI after a strange four-ball 8, but he was out for 18 in the second as India posted a below-par 237, which was successfully defended on Wednesday.
Kohli was dismissed by Alzarri Joseph in the first ODI while the former captain was bowled by Odean Smith in a magnificent spell from the West Indies express bowler. Smith bounced Kohli back with bouncers before pushing one up further, pushing one further up, and forcing Kohli to edge.
In 5 matches, Kohli has scored 142 runs, including two fifties in January against South Africa. Kohli, however, hasn’t scored a three-figure score in ODI cricket since he hit five in 2019.
Kohli’s form has been questioned as he has struggled to score big scores at the top of the order for India, but Gavaskar believes the former captain is just looking for some luck.
“Luck (What is Kohli missing?). Every batter needs a bit of luck. Every batter needs a situation where he plays and misses an edge. Every batter needs a situation where he edges the ball and the catch is dropped or the ball falls short of the fielder” said the veteran former cricketer.
