Don’t trust fake electricity bills/related messages – Cyber Dost

The advent of developed technology and media has made our lives easier. It’s not a new thing to say. As familiar as the concept of media and technology is, so are the terms scam and frauds. And the Internet’s version: Digital Frauds and Cyber Crimes. Cyber Crime has been constantly on the rise. From Cyber Bullying to the transmission of fake public information, one can be a victim of cybercrime very easily.

Recently there have been instances of fake electricity bill enquiry messages circulated to the mass. The message states that a consumer’s electricity power will be cut off as they haven’t paid their due bills. Such messages come to consumers through text message platforms such as WhatsApp or a phone’s default message app. The messages also contain a fake electricity board’s incharge phone number.

You might be one of them to receive such messages. The authority has advised a customer to contact the Electric Board’s official customer care number on receiving any such message.

Cyber Dost updated about this through a tweet on their official Twitter handle today.

With the dynamic nature of technology, cybercrime is constantly on a wave. If you are a victim of any cyber crime activities, you can give a call to 1930. You can also register a complaint on the government website, www.cybercrime.gov.in

As flexible the development of digital media has made our lives, it also has its repercussions. It is one’s duty to be aware and cautious about all the necessary safety measures one should acquaint themselves with. Stay alert, stay safe.
