Google Introduces Passkeys
Google had announced last year, alongside other leading companies like Apple, Microsoft, and Fido Alliance, that the company plans to introduce passkeys as a reliable alternative option to passwords. As promised, the California tech giant has introduced passkeys to Google accounts on all of its major platforms on the 3rd of May 2023, one day ahead of World Password Day.

We all are aware of how difficult it is to remember passwords and how inconvenient it is to log in with a long password, each time when we want to sign in to our accounts. Most of us in order to not forget the passwords even rely on choosing our pet’s name or birthday, or maybe even choosing to select the most infamous password “password123” as our sign-in passwords. This makes passwords a very unsafe option, and at the same is also very easy to be hacked.
It might be with this in mind, Google had decided to introduce passkeys as a better and safer sign-in alternative. However, it is to be noted that Google hasn’t made passkeys as a complete alternative but currently has introduced the sign-in method as an additional option alongside a password and 2-step verification. By next year, passkeys might become a complete alternative to passwords and users won’t have to use or remember their passwords anymore.
