Is iPhone keeping a track of your location and sending it to Apple without your permission
If you are an iPhone user you need to know about a feature that might be enabled in your phone and can be a threat to your privacy and security. Nowadays the use of ‘encrypted’ has become very common but with extended use, at different place, it has lost its value. Almost every other app claims to keep the data of users encrypted and safe but we also know about the breach and hacking of data. Something similar has come to light through a cybersecurity expert Jonathan Scott who wrote “Allow your iPhone and iCloud connected devices to learn places significant to you- NOPE!!!!”
He is talking about the Significant Location feature of iPhone that lets your iPhone and iCloud-connected devices keep track of places you have recently been to as well as know the number of times you visited that place. This data is also sent to Apple for making recommendations based on location. This data is also used by Apple for augmenting crowd-sourced road traffic and atmospheric correction. It also helps in making location-based alerts like calling someone when reached somewhere or shortcut recommendations.
These are some of the things about this feature the Apple website has mentioned but still, there is always some issues associated with data and data transfer. You need to disable this by following mentioned steps;-
- Go in Setting
- Then go to Privacy and Security
- Tap on Location Service and go to System Service
- Thereafter in Significant Locations, you can easily turn it off.
🚨🚨🚨Turn this off in your iPhone Now!
