Microsoft sending 6 digit 2FA codes to users instead of 7, while changing password or logging in
Washington-based Microsoft company has huge importance in the personal and professional life of users. Its wide range of products and services allows users to work effectively and efficiently. What if you go to log in to your Microsoft id on your laptop and end up getting the wrong OTP multiple times after the incorrect password?
Now you must be saying it’s “frustrating”. Then find consolation in knowing that you are not the only one facing this issue and neither it’s the first time. It’s just about last month when Microsoft OneDrive was down for the users and users took to Twitter to share it.
Microsoft incorrect codes
A user named Susan Tantum recently wrote on the Microsoft community sharing her issue with the login. She wrote, “I keep getting sent a 6-digit verification code instead of a 7-digit code while trying to sign in”. Further, she wrote that she can’t log in to her computer because she was receiving a six-digit code instead of seven. She even tried to change the password but it didn’t work either.
This is not the first time as it had happened even earlier when Microsoft sent users 6-digit codes instead of 4 digits. Though at that time Microsoft took this into consideration and responded but this time we can’t see any response below the user’s query. An independent advisor has suggested checking the uppercase/lowercase of the password and also wrote that “the code problem is from Microsoft’s end they are working to resolve it”.
Later the user responded and wrote that she changed her password again on the device and received the seven-digit code.
This has happened quite a few times with Microsoft users, so if it’s been happening with you, Microsoft is working on it. Make sure to wait for a while and change the password after some time.
