Twitter in disbelief after massive VAR controversy in Arsenal-Man City match
On Saturday night, Manchester City defeated Arsenal 2-1 at the Emirates to keep hold of the Premier League title. Pep Guardiola’s side moved 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League table with the win. In the match against Arsenal, a couple of calls went their way, including a VAR (Video Assistant Referee) decision that left fans on Twitter in total disbelief.
As Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard tried to round Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson in the 12th minute, he went down. In the replays, Ederson came into contact with Odegaard’s foot before approaching the ball.
To the dismay of Arsenal’s fans, no penalty was awarded. Albert Stuivenberg, Arsenal assistant manager, stated that consistency is the key.
VAR’s decision annoyed not just Arsenal fans but some journalists as well.
Piers Morgan clearly stated through a tweet that it was clearly a penalty and the viewers are robbed by the VAR.
