WASHINGTON: The U.S. stole information from a professional hacker group funded by a foreign government. According to individuals familiar with the subject, the Treasury Department and a U.S. agency responsible for determining Internet and telecommunications policies.
John Ullyot, spokesman for the National Security Council said that the United States’ Government is aware of these reports. And they all are taking the necessary steps to identify and remedy any possible situation related issues.
There is fear within the U.S. intelligence community that according to three persons briefed on the issue, the hackers who attacked the Treasury Department and the National Telephone and Information Administration of the Commerce Department used a standard instrument to break into other government departments.
The hack is so bad that it led to a meeting of the National Security Council on Saturday at the White House, one of the people familiar with the matter said.
