US encourages dialogue between protesting farmers and Govt to improve efficiency of India’s markets

The US State Department, in response to a question on the ongoing farmers’ protests in India, urged for dialogue between all parties for peacefully resolving the situation.

A spokesperson for the US State Department said the US recognises peaceful protests as a “hallmark of any thriving democracy.” On the newly introduced agriculture laws that aim to deregulate the farming sector, the department said, “in general, the United States welcomes steps that would improve the efficiency of India’s markets and attract greater private sector investment.”

The reply also included concern for the deliberate internet cut-offs: “We recognize that unhindered access to information, including the internet, is fundamental to the freedom of expression and a hallmark of a thriving democracy.”

Apart from the US State Department talking about the farmer’s protest, people like Rihanna and Greta Thunberg have also voiced their concern regarding the same.
