“We are Ending Toll”, new satellite-based toll collection system to be introduced soon, says Nitin Gadkari, Transport Minister of India

In the latest developments, the Union Transport Minister of India, Nitin Gadkari announced that the government is now putting a stop to the current toll system. It will soon be replaced by a new satellite-based toll collection system.

The new satellite-based toll system will deduct money from your bank account according to the distance covered by you. According to the minister, this process will help in saving time and money.

Nitin Gadkari also emphasized the Bharatmala Praiyojana, the aim of which, is to develop about 26,000 km of economic corridors along the Golden Quadrilateral and North-South and East-West corridors. The minister is also expecting that the project will revolutionize the nation’s future by the end of this year. He aims to levitate India’s National Highway Road network to the same level as that of America.

In December 2023, the transport minister had earlier stated plans to implement the new toll system by March 2024. According to reports, the authority has communicated about their efforts to streamline processes and reduce waiting times at toll plazas to the World Bank.

The introduction of FASTag has significantly reduced the average waiting time at toll plazas to about 47 seconds. The previous average was about 714 seconds.
